The goal of the Islais Creek Bay Trail Project ("The Project") is to create a popular destination point on the Bay Trail by developing and uniting a group of parks situated next to the Bay Trail along Islais Creek.

The Friends of Islais Creek Park, Tulare Park and Muwekma Park will each have a separate focus (e.g., ecological, historical/educational, recreational) united by their location on the creek and common history.

The Islais Creek Bay Trail Project has four main components:

Promoting and Improving Recreation along the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area.

The various parks abutting the Bay Trail in the Islais Creek area will be united — directly where possible, or with appropriate signage — in order to promote a larger "destination point" recreation area. Specifically, The Project will create and expand access points for pedestrians, joggers, bicyclists, kiakers and others traveling along the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area. As well as create and expand rest and relaxation areas.

Creating Ecologic & Historic Education Opportunities along the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area.

The Project will create signage in the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area relating to the history of the area and describing the local flora and fauna.

The Project will also create a local school outreach program focused on environmental studies that brings local school children to the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area and provides the necessary guidance, resources and materials.

Beautification of the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area.

The Project will help attract people to the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area through various beautification projects. These would include site appropriate landscaping and artworks.

Maintenance of the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area

The Project will make the Islais Creek Bay Trail Area cleaner and safer. Safety will be promoted by increasing lighting, signage and supervision of the area. Sanitation will be promoted by increasing the number of garbage receptacles, providing for regular maintenance and clean up of the area, and adding bathroom facilities where appropriate.
